computer Maintenance-www.infoonblog.co.cc

Are you really your computer is healt??? Do you get days where you feel like tearing your hair out, because your Pc will not operate in the manner which it did when you first bought it. Believe me you are not alone, this happens to most of us, especially if your Pc is a few years old and you have not given it the maintenance it requires. Pcs need to be kept in good condition and from time to time they have to be given a good clean out.

In this Tutorial, I shall give you the steps which you need to carry out approximately once per month. These steps will help keep your Pc running well and efficiently.

Most of the steps below are easy to perform and will work wonders for your Pc. Make sure you perform each task at least once per month. If your Pc is over a year old and you have not carried out any kind of maintenance, the process could take some hours to complete. Don’t worry, once you have carried out these tasks for the first time, it should take only around half an hour the next time you maintain your Pc.

Empty Recycle Bin

The first thing to do is empty your recycle bin, this may seem obvious, but it is surprising how many people let the recycle bin clog up with unwanted files. When you delete a file, it is stored in the recycle bin folder, this gives you the chance to restore it later if you wish. Keeping these files takes up hard disc space, so if you no longer require them, delete them by simply right clicking on the recycle bin icon on your desktop and selecting “empty recycle bin” from the drop down menu.

Uninstall Unused Programs

Over a period of time you will have loaded many programs from cd discs and from the internet. You will most likely have many programs which you no longer use. These programs are taking valuable hard disc space and need to be deleted. You need to go through all your installed programs and delete the ones you no longer require. To do this go to your start menu, control panel then click on the add / remove programs icon. You can now delete the programs you don’t use from the window like this one below :

computer Maintenance-www.infoonblog.co.cc

If you need to delete a program, click on the program name,( Toshiba Console in this example ) and click on change/ remove.

Disk CleanUp

This feature is included in the Windows system and a disk cleanup should be performed regularly. To access disk cleanup go to your start menu, programs, accessories, system tools then select disk cleanup from the drop down menu. You will be presented with a box like this :

computer Maintenance-www.infoonblog.co.cc

After a short time disk cleanup will have scanned your Pc and presented you with a box like this :

computer Maintenance-www.infoonblog.co.cc

Make sure you tick the Temporary Internet Files box. Everytime you view a web page the page is stored in this folder. If you have never deleted the contents of this folder before, you will have a huge amount of files saved in there taking up a massive amount of your hard disc space. Deleting the contents of this folder will work wonders for your internet surfing, it should be faster. Now let’s do a Defrag.

Defragging The Hard Disc

The reason we need to defragment is because when a program is stored on the hard drive the fragments of files can get split up. When you use a program your Pc has to search and find all the fragments and join the whole lot together, which slows down the speed of your Pc. Defragmenting finds all these files and puts them in their correct place, making the program open much faster, putting less strain on your Pc.

To carry out a defragment, go to your start menu as before, programs, accessories, system tools and select disk defragment from the drop down menu. Now click the defragment button and leave it to complete the process. This can take hours if you have not done it before, doing it every month will help speed the process up, the amount of time it takes will depend on the size of your hard drive.

Empty The Prefetch Cache

The prefetch cache is something which is overlooked by most. Trying to improve the time it takes a program to load, the windows system guesses which files will be required next; these are loaded into a cache. This action is known as prefetching. Over a period of time the prefetch cache can become loaded with files which are no longer used. When this happens it can slow down windows on start up.Emptying this cache can help speed your Pc on start up. To do this,

click run in the start up menu and type “Prefetch” in the run boxwhich appears, click ok. The result is a window with numerous icons. Paste over the icons and delete. The cache is now ready to resume its work and will begin to refill with files and links as required. Doing this will improve the response of your Pc.

System Registry a quick note

The system registry is where all your windows settings are stored, these settings change every time you add a program. There are literally thousands of entries which control your Pc and the way it behaves. Every time you install or uninstall a program there are small traces of the program left behind. You are eventually left with entries which will never be used, unused drivers and maybe spyware and other malicious programs. All this leads to a slow Pc. I would not advise tampering with the registry as this is a very complicated area if you don’t know what you are doing. I would recommend using Registry cleaning software. One of the better ones is Registry Fix which includes a free scan and can be downloaded by clicking here.

http://www.registryfix.com/?hop=winhere

Another is Error Doctor which is one of the top programs for cleaning and repairing Pc registries, Error Doctor can be downloaded by clicking here.

How to save your favorite Web Pages on Your PC?

Today tip will help you to save any webpage on your disk in proper way. Many times you find a webpage, which want to view or read when you are not connected to the internet. It's happened to you dozens of times in a month. Here I have solution to this problem, almost all web browsers allow you to save any webpage to your computer and when you can enjoy those pages whenever you want. There are many options in web browser to save your favorite web pages.

First open your favorite web page then go to File menu in web browser to save that page. In File menu choose Save as option here. You should browse to any folder where you want to save that webpage and choose the proper format to save it in.

Webpage Complete (*.htm, *. html)

This option saves the webpage in its regular HTML format. With this format, Internet Explorer saves all the graphics of that webpage only in one folder.

Web Archive, Single file (*.mht)

Using this option, the explorer saves the webpage in a single file in a zipped format which is known as Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension HTML. There are no folders creating with this technique and it save all the graphics of webpage in only one file.

If you don't want to use the code of HTML, this format is better to save any file because this option saves all the files in a single file.

Webpage, HTML only (*.htm, *. html)

With this option you can save only the HTML portion of the webpage, with this option you can save webpage without any graphics. For the next time when you will try to open the page which you have saved though it might be difficult to read because graphics are normally use to hold the pieces of webpage together. If you want to reuse the HTML in a webpage you want to create then choose this option.

Text File (*.txt)

You can save a webpage as text format (text only) with using this option. If you want to save only text from a page and you do not want about the pictures then this is good option for you. When you want to read that saved page, open your browser and go to File menu and then browse to that folder where you have saved that pages.

Clean Install XP-www.infoonblog.co.cc

Confused abaout clean install xp?? If the above instructions for configuring your system to boot from CD or you have acquired the necessary boot floppy/floppies; you can now boot the computer and follow the on screen prompts. Have your Product Key available, typical install is around 30 minutes. If setup seems to hang, wait at least 10 minutes + before restarting system. You should experience momentary screen blackouts.

  1. Power on the computer. Press the Pause/Break key as soon as you see text on the screen. [If you currently are running in an OS of any flavor, insert XP CD and restart computer. Skip to #3 if system is configured to boot from CD.]
  2. Insert XP CD into CD drive. Press ENTER to resume booting from the XP CD. (BIOS must support booting from CD and boot order must be set so CD boots before hard drive. If computer does not support booting from CD go to 2a for floppy install).
  3. 2b. Floppy install: Boot from Win98/Me/Special XP install floppy disk with smartdrv.exe added to the boot disk; or the Win XP set of 6 floppy disks.
  4. Look for message "booting from CD" usually located at the bottom of the screen. If you have a factory splash screen, press ESC to unload it.
  5. Floppy install: From the A Prompt; A:\type: smartdrv.exe. then press ENTER. If you are using the XP boot floppy setup disks skip to step #5.
  6. Press any Key when you see the prompt to "Press Any Key"
  7. Floppy install: CD to the location of the CD-ROM drive with the XP setup files; CD to the i386 folder where you will type: winnt.exe to start setup.
  8. Setup will start copying files, if you need to install any third
    - party or RAID drivers press F6 at this time. the copying of files can take awhile.
  9. Next you will get the option to repair or enter setup, choose to enter setup. Press ENTER. To see images full size, place mouse cursor over image and click/double click or press the left button and open.
  10. Press F8 if you agree to the license.
  11. Setup will scan for previous Windows installations
  12. If you are using the upgrade version of XP on a computer without any version of Windows currently installed, this is where you will replace the XP CD with your qualifying CD, XP setup will scan the qualifying CD and instruct you to replace it with the XP CD to continue XP setup; otherwise, you will not see this screen. Clean install qualifying media can be any of the following Win NT3.51, 4.0, 2000, Win 95, 98, Me. 10. Choose the location to install.
  13. If this is a clean hard drive, you can choose to create a partition in the un-partitioned space. At this point, you can allow Setup to use all the space or set a size for the partition.
  14. If the hard drive or partition has a previous installation of XP you want to remove, choose to delete the partition by pressing "D". You will then be prompted to create a new partition in the empty space. This will remove all data from the delete space. --------
  15. If you intend to use multiple partitions, or dual boot, this is where you specify the size of the boot partition and or setup location for XP. If you are planning to dual boot XP, I would create a small 100 meg DOS partition for the first primary partition, then an 8 to 10 gig partition for XP. You can partition and format the remaining space after XP is setup from Disk Manager. If you do not intend to dual boot, you can either use all the un-partitioned space, or create an 8 to 10 gig partition for XP and leave the rest free to partition later. ----------
  16. Note: If a fat32 partition larger than 32 gigabyte is desired, the hard drive or partition will need to be created before running XP setup. XP will not create a fat 32 partition larger than 32 gig, but will support one previously created.
  17. Choose the file system from this screen. If dual booting and you created the small 100 meg partition, make it a fat partition. NTFS is configured at the optimal file size during the initial setup. See this link for more on NTFS
  18. If you have more that one partition or hard drive on your system, make sure you are formatting the correct partition/drive.
  19. Select F to continue.
  20. Setup will show a progress box and reboot when copying files is complete.
  21. When you see the "Press any Key to Reboot" do not Press any Key. If CD boots anyway, remove CD and reboot.
  22. From this point, you will follow the on screen prompts.
  23. If you live outside the US, you will probably need to modify the default settings.
  24. Personalize your XP Enter your Name and Organization.
  25. Enter the Product Key. The Key is located on the back of the CD folder in the Retail versions, and on a holographic label with the OEM versions purchased with a piece of hardware. Write this key down and secure it in a safe place in case the original is misplaced destroyed through natural causes or stupidity. 8-)
  26. Choose a name for the computer, this should be a unique name for the computer, especially if it is to be connected to a network. In Pro, you are given the option of creating a password or leaving it blank.
  27. Set your Time Zone and Time and Date.
  28. Setup will scan for network.
  29. If detected you will have the choice to choose a typical configuration or custom. Choose typical if you are unsure.
  30. For home you will choose your workgroup, if a network is already established and you intend to connect to it, use the existing workgroup name, otherwise, I suggest using the default.
  31. For Pro, the same goes for Pro as suggested for Home, but you will have the choice to join a Domain, if you do not have a Domain or do not know leave blank.
  32. Setup will continue and reboot when completed ignore the "Press Any Key".
  33. The loading XP window will now display after reboot.
  34. You will see a change display settings, say yes, and accept the setting if you can see the screen after accepting.
  35. You will see a welcome screen, press next and unfortunately you have to wait for the dialog to finish.
  36. Set up you internet or network connection.
  37. This is the Activate, Register screen. You must activate within 30 days of installing XP, but you do not ever have to register, Registration is completely optional and if you do not register, no personal information will be transmitted during activation. If you register, then activation will transmit that information along with the activation. The first Activation is usually done over the internet if the computer is connected to the internet, otherwise, it can be accomplished by copying the alphanumeric string from the activation screen and make a phone call to the on screen supplied phone number. The activation center will then give you a slightly longer number to input into for activation. I suggest you do not activate immediately in case you need to make hard ware changes, or install to a different system within the thirty days, and you will be reminded on boot up until you do.
  38. Blaster worm warning: Do not immediately activate over the internet when asked, enable the XP firewall before connecting to the internet. You can activate after the firewall is enabled. Control Panel - Network Connections. Right click the connection you use, Properties, and there is a check box on the Advanced page.
  39. Setup users screen. Set at least one user for yourself or the person that will be using the computer.
  40. Thank You
  41. Logon to XP and apply Service Pack and Critical updates from Windows Update before installing any software or hardware.
  42. Install your anti-virus software.
  43. Install all applications and setup your email.
  44. Restore from Files and Settings transfer after reinstalling all applications.

1 Smart Way Digital Camera Guide

Digital Camera Guide-www.infoonblog.co.cc

Buy A camera will give any problem,, megapixcels? Optical vs Digital Zoom? and much more,, here i will give some tips trick to buy camera.

So, it's time for a digital camera huh? Well, buying one can be more than a little difficult. What types of features should you look for? Well, this guide will tell you that plus get you a little more familiar with what these cameras are capable of.

Megapixels

When it comes to megapixels, the more the better. I recommend a minimum of 2, but 3 or 4 is great. We did a test to see if a camera with 2.3 megapixels (actually 1.92 - 1600 x 1200) could produce a good quality 8x10.

Turns out it can, if you have the right paper and printer. We used HP Premium Plus photo paper with an HP 970 series printer and made a fantastic 8 x 10. Remember, I was a professional photographer before I got into computing, so I know a good print when I see it :-)

The resolution at 8x10 (we had to crop in to make the picture proportional to 8x10) was only 150 DPI. Most printers would not make a real good 8x10 at that resolution, but this one did. So, if you want to be sure you can get good 8 x 10s, you may want to go with a 3 megapixel camera or better (that gives you around 200 DPI at 8x10 size, still not quite the optimum 300 DPI, but it looks good with the right printer).

Optical vs Digital Zoom

You've probably noticed that most digital cameras have both a specification for digital and optical zoom. Pay the most attention to the optical zoom.

The optical zoom magnifies (zooms in) using glass. The digital zoom basically crops out the edge of the picture to make the subject appear closer, causing you to lose resolution or to get an interpolated resolution (i.e. the camera adds pixels). Neither of which help image quality.

Finally, make sure you get enough (optical) zoom. A 2x zoom isn't going to do much for you. A 3x is the average you'll find in most digital cameras will probably be good for most uses. More on lenses later.

Connection

How does the camera connect to your computer? If you have a USB port in your computer, you'll want a camera that can connect via USB as opposed to a slow serial connection.

On the other hand, if your computer doesn't have a USB port, is there a serial connector available for the camera you're looking at? If so, is it a special order and how long does it take to get it?

Storage

What does the camera use to store images with? If it uses a memory stick, make sure you consider buying additional sticks when you get your camera. A typical 8 meg memory stick that comes with a 2 megapixel camera only holds 5 or 6 images at the camera's best quality.

Some cameras use a 3.5 inch disk for storage. Be careful of these!
Although it may sound like a good idea, a 3 megapixel camera at high resolution produces a 1 meg file (compressed!). That's only 1 picture per disk.

Here's a few more things to look out for when trying to make your digital camera purchase.

Picture Formats

When you're trying to decide on which digital camera to get, check and see how many different picture formats it supports.

You want something that can produce both uncompressed (usually TIFF) and compressed (usually JPEG) images. I personally use the high quality JPEG setting on my camera for most of my shooting. TIFFs are just too big and the difference in quality is not ascertainable by mere mortals.

You also want to be able to shoot at a lower resolution than the camera's maximum. That way, If you're running short on memory, you can squeeze a few more shots on your memory stick.

Auxiliary Lens / Flash

This was a biggie for me. While a 3x zoom may work for the "average" user, I needed something that allowed me to do some wide angle work as well as have a good telephoto lens.

So, the camera I purchased a few months back was a Nikon Coolpix 990 (note that this isn't the only camera that can accept lenses). It has auxiliary lenses that screw into the filter ring on the front of the lens. I now have an ultra-wide fisheye lens plus a nice telephoto.

In addition to lenses, I wanted a good flash. The flash that is built into most of these cameras gives you a top range of 15-20 feet - at best. I wanted a camera that could take a powerful auxiliary flash (again, the Nikon isn't the only camera that fits this requirement, but I liked it better than the rest). If you need more reach than the small built in flash can deliver, then make sure you can attach an external flash to any camera you consider.

As an added bonus, if you get a camera that can take an external flash, you can place that flash on a bracket and eliminate red-eye.

Flash Distance

Speaking of flashes, make sure you check the distance the built in flash is good for. You don't want a camera with a wimpy flash that only travels a few feet (well, unless you can get an external flash for it as described above).

Battery Type

This may not sound important, but it is. Anyone who owns a digital camera can tell you they eat batteries the way a sumo wrestler eats at a buffet.

Make sure the camera can run on regular (or rechargeable) "AA" type batteries. You don't want a camera that eats through expensive lithium batteries every 10 shots or so.

One thing to remember about digital cameras, they do eat through batteries. I recommend getting some Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable for it. I have some for mine and they have saved me a fortune.

Final Notes

Choosing a digital camera isn't easy. There's a huge selection out there and only you can determine which features you need.

For instance, if you shoot wildlife photos, a small 3x zoom probably isn't going to cut it (unless you can attach auxiliary lenses to it). If you shoot lots of close-ups, make sure the camera has some sort of macro capability. If you shoot big group photos indoors, an external flash may be necessary.

My advice is to make a list of things you want to be able to do with the camera then go to somewhere that can help you make a good purchase decision.

Finally, buy the BEST camera you can possibly afford. Or wait until the price drops on one with the type of features you want.

1 All Definition About Spyware

About Spyware-www.infoonblog.co.cc

HI,,, come again.....There are a lot of PC users that know little about "Spyware", "Mal-ware", "hijackers", "Dialers" & many more. This will help you avoid pop-ups, spammers and all those baddies.

What is spy-ware?

Spy-ware is Internet jargon for Advertising Supported software (Ad-ware). It is a way for shareware authors to make money from a product, other than by selling it to the users. There are several large media companies that offer them to place banner ads in their products in exchange for a portion of the revenue from banner sales. This way, you don't have to pay for the software and the developers are still getting paid. If you find the banners annoying, there is usually an option to remove them, by paying the regular licensing fee.

Known spywares

There are thousands out there, new ones are added to the list everyday. But here are a few:
Alexa, Aureate/Radiate, BargainBuddy, ClickTillUWin, Conducent Timesink, Cydoor, Comet Cursor, eZula/KaZaa Toptext, Flashpoint/Flashtrack, Flyswat, Gator, GoHip, Hotbar, ISTbar, Lions Pride Enterprises/Blazing Logic/Trek Blue, Lop (C2Media), Mattel Brodcast, Morpheus, NewDotNet, Realplayer, Songspy, Xupiter, Web3000, WebHancer, Windows Messenger Service.

How to check if a program has spyware?

The is this Little site that keeps a database of programs that are known to install spyware.

Check Here: http://www.spywareguide.com/product_search.php

If you would like to block pop-ups (IE Pop-ups). There tons of different types out there, but these are the 2 best, i think.

The best scanner out there, and updated all the time.

Try: HijackThis 1.97.7 (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html) This program is Freeware
Info: HijackThis is a tool, that lists all installed browser add-on, buttons, startup items and allows you to inspect them, and optionally remove selected items.

If you would like to prevent "spyware" being install.
Try: SpywareBlaster 2.6.1 (http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareblaster.html) This program is Free
Info: SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It achieves this by disabling the CLSIDs of popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Try: SpywareGuard 2.2 (http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html) This program is Free

4 Warning Fake Windows Update Email

fake windows update-www.infoonblog.co.cc

Hmmm,,,, Well Microsoft believes that the grace period is over and wants everyone to jump on board and get Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed. I know everyone has an opinion on the Service, some good some not so good, but it really is only a matter of time. Do you know anyone without SP1 on his or her XP machine? I hope not.

As you may also know, Microsoft has picked the second Tuesday of the month to run their new security patches. These two issues have really set the stage for a new attack on windows users. Hackers have decided to try and slip one by your defenses with a Phishing/Trojan scam. You may get a spoof emails that link to a bogus Microsoft site where the hackers get you. If successful in their efforts, the ambushed PC will be infected with the TrojDSNX-05, a back door Trojan that attempts to gain control over your system. With control of your system the hacker will more than likely use you (of course unknowingly) as a spam server to mail out huge amounts of spam in your name. If a network PC happens to get infected, then a denial of Service, exploitation of network shares, and further infection are something you may look forward to.
